How to clean your wool carpet?

Wool is a natural, renewable fiber that stops bacterial growth, removes stains and inhibits the growth of dust mites. Wool rugs tend to cost more than cotton or synthetic rugs, but they are durable and can last a lifetime with proper care. While professional dry cleaning is recommended for stubborn stains on wool rugs, it is possible to clean wool rugs once a year with a mild surface scrubber agent. Here’s how to clean wool rugs.

⭐️Tools for cleaning wool carpets
Most of the tools and supplies needed to clean wool carpets are easily found in supermarkets. The basic tools needed are: vacuum cleaner, dehairing machine or broom, wool-safe cleaning solution, two buckets, large sponge, large oilcloth, fan.

When cleaning wool rugs at home, wait for a sunny day with moderate temperatures and do it outside. This keeps most of the dust and dirt out, allows the carpet to dry faster, and sunlight is a natural and effective deodorizer.

⭐️The following is a wet and dry cleaning method for wool carpets:

1. Shake or slap: Take the carpet outside and shake it. If the rug is larger, ask a companion to help you hang the rug over a porch railing or over a few sturdy chairs. Use a broom or rug blower to tap various areas of the carpet to loosen deep-seated dirt. Don’t forget to shake off the carpet pads, too.

2. Vacuuming: Spread an oilcloth on the floor and place the carpet on top. Vacuum the carpet clean. Turn the carpet over and vacuum the other side.

3. Use dry bath method: If the carpet is not too dirty and just needs to be refreshed, you can try using dry shampoo. Spread dry carpet shampoo on the surface, let sit for the recommended time, and then vacuum clean.

4. Mixed detergent: For heavily soiled carpets, gentle scrubbing is required. Use a wool-safe detergent. Fill one of the buckets with cool water and add one to two tablespoons of detergent. Fill another bucket with cool and clean water.

5. Scrubbing: Start from one end of the carpet. Dip the sponge into the cleaning solution. Don’t over-wet the fiber, wool is very absorbent and will take a long time to dry if it’s too wet. Scrub the carpet gently using gentle pressure, rinsing the sponge frequently to avoid transferring dirt.

6.Rinse: It is important not to leave any soapy substance on the carpet. Soap will attract more dirt. Dip a clean sponge in the rinse water to remove soap from the area you just cleaned.

7. Absorb dry: Use a towel to absorb excess moisture. Scrub, rinse, and blot one area before moving on to the next.

8. Dry: Hang the rug or place a fan near the rug to help speed up drying. Make sure the rug is completely dry before returning it to the room. It may take several hours for the rug to dry.

⭐️Regular maintenance maintains the beauty of wool rugs and extends their lifespan. Generally wool carpets only need to be vacuumed twice a month. But if your carpet gets a lot of foot traffic or if you have pets in the house, you should vacuum your carpet more frequently. Wool carpets only need to be deep cleaned once a year and light spot cleaning can be done as needed.
